How do I get to my class location?

Crossroads

The class meets at Mancuso Harley-Davidson® Crossroads, 12710 Crossroads Park Drive, Houston, 77065. It is located near the intersection of FM1960 and US290. When you arrive at the building and are facing the front (where the Harley-Davidson® signs are), proceed down the LEFT side of the building and park by the patio/picnic tables. Enter thru the side door. Your classroom will be on the left.

Gulf Freeway

The class meets at Team Mancuso Powersports, 11415 Gulf Freeway. To get there heading southbound , take the Almeda-Genoa Rd exit, cross under the freeway and head north on the feeder til you see the dealership. To get there heading northbound, take the Almeda-Genoa exit and head north on the feeder. The store is just before Fredy Used Cars on your right.  Go in the parking lot and enter thru the front entrance of the store.  (*Note: during hot summer months, meet-up location on day 1 will be at the riding range.  Watch your emails for details.)

LaMarque

The class meets at Team Mancuso Powersports, 4805 Gulf Freeway in LaMarque. It is critical that you enter this address as LaMarque, not Houston, in your GPS! The dealership will not be open when you arrive for your first class session, so you will need to go to the front door marked SERVICE in large letters.  (*Note: during hot summer months, meet-up location on day 1 will be at the riding range.  Watch your emails for details.)

Q. How do I sign up online?

Simple. Click on the location of your choice, select the class you want and follow the easy check-out instructions. You'll need to have your credit card handy!

Q. Who may attend a RiderCourse?

Student Admission Requirements.

  1. Basic motorcycle operator training courses are open to any person who is:
    1. Physically and mentally capable of being licensed in Texas as a motorcycle operator
    2. At least 15 years old on the day the course begins.
  2. A person who is 15 years old but is less than 18 years old may not enroll into a basic motorcycle operator training course unless he or she has a Class C learner permit or an unrestricted Class C, or higher, driver license.
  3. A person 18 years old or older may not enroll into a basic motorcycle operator training course unless he or she has a picture identification to confirm his or her identity.
  4. The advanced motorcycle operator training course is restricted to individuals with a current motorcycle (Class M) driver's license. Each student must provide his or her own motorcycle that meets the requirements of §31.7 of this title (relating to Motorcycle Requirements).

Q. What do I need?

Per the state of Texas: long sleeves/jacket, over-the-ankle footwear, full-fingered gloves, eye protection (sunglasses okay), a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and try new things. If you are under 18 years of age, you will need to have a parent or legal guardian come with you to sign waivers and release forms.

Q. Anything else?

You must be able to ride and balance a bicycle. If you haven't done so in a long time get out and ride for awhile to get used to being on 2 wheels and leaning into turns again. It helps a lot!

Q. Does everybody pass the class?

Not always, no. The national average for passing is about 82-85% the first time through. If you are concerned about passing the first time, consider purchasing our exclusive Second Chance purchase.  That way, if you are not successful your first time through, you may retake at no additional charge!

Q. What must be done to pass?

Successful completion requires passing a multiple choice knowledge test and an on-the-bike skills test. No surprises or tricks... just things you've gone over and practiced. Failing either of these tests means not passing.  (Effective August 1, 2022 no in-class knowledge test will be required, but students must complete the required ecourse prior to admission.)

The class is conducted on a building-block approach. Students MUST successfully achieve the objective of each exercise to advance to the next one. We will do our best to help every student succeed but if a student fails to achieve an objective in the reasonable time allowed such failure will result in dismissal from the class. Remember, we're here to assist learning. We can't guarantee it or put it to use.

Students who are disruptive combative, abusive or dangerous to themselves and/or others will be dismissed from the class. Students late to any session will be dismissed from the class. There are no free re-dos or refunds for anyone who is dismissed from or doesn't pass a class.

Q. What if it rains?

Classes run rain or shine. In the event of unsafe conditions, such as severe lightning high winds hail downpours etc., we will move the class indoors. Once the dangerous conditions have subsided we will resume riding. It's always a good idea to bring some rain gear and/or a change of clothes!

Q. What bikes do we ride?

Our locations feature different types, brands and sizes of bikes. Depending on where you train, you may ride a cruiser, dual-sport or standard motorcycle ranging in size from 125cc to 250cc. Brands include Honda and Suzuki. All bikes are well-maintained for your safety.

Q. Can I use my own bike?

Sure, but be sure to check with your insurance company first to make sure it's covered in the event of a mishap. You will need to sign a waiver and agree to accept responsibility for damages to your bike as a result of training, and you will need to bring proof of insurance with you to the class. You're usually better off enjoying one of our bikes!

Q. What about scooters?

We do not have scooters for use, but you may ride your own scooter in class. For specific information about this, please contact us.

Q. After I graduate, how do I get my motorcycle endorsement?

Everyone who successfully passes the Basic RiderCourse receives the Texas DPS MSB-8 form in duplicate. If you are 18 and over and have an unrestricted Class A,B or C license, take the MSB-8 to a DPS office and you're done! You have joined the ranks of licensed riders in Texas! Graduates 15-17 years of age will need to turn in their completion MSB-8 and pass an on-the-road skills test at the DPS. The graduate will need to provide a motorcycle for that test.
